Abstract
The study sought to establish the effect of communication on workers performance in organizations taking Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) as a case study. The study was guided by the following objectives; to establish whether the utilization of communication improves workers performance, types of communication, and the relationship created by communication between managers and workers in an organization.
The research design was a case study, that used both qualitative and quantitative methods. The organization had 108 staff out of which a total of 86 respondents were sampled. These comprised all the 23 managers, all the 11 heads of departments, and 50 sampled workers. Data was collected by using questionnaires and structured interviews.
The findings were established that 62.22% of members accepted that communication had a positive contribution to workers performance. Managers used verbal communication at their work place. This was represented by the percentage of 52.17% and conclusions were made that utilization of communication in an organization had a positive effect on the performance of workers. On the other hand, it was discovered that both the managers and workers were using both verbal and non-verbal forms of communication respectively. Conclusions were made that communication created a strong relationship in the organization between managers, heads of departments and workers since they related in very many aspects of life so it should not be undermined. The recommendations were that in order to have high performing organizations, effective communication that involve workers in decision making should be emphasized and avoid bureaucratic tendencies, management should avail necessary information to workers.
