dc.description.abstractThe study sought to investigate the relationship that exists between management practices and the commitment of academic staff at Uganda Christian University (Mukono). It was guided by three objectives: to establish the relationship between remuneration and commitment of academic staff at Uganda Christian University (Mukono), to investigate the relationship between staff welfare management and commitment of academic staff at Uganda Christian University (Mukono), to examine the relationship between staff development and commitment of academic staff at Uganda Christian University (Mukono). The study used a cross-sectional survey research design to collect both quantitative and qualitative data from 113, respondents namely, administrators and lecturers (academic staff), who were purposively selected from Uganda Christian University (Mukono). The main instruments were a self administered questionnaire and interview guide. The study objectives were tested using Pearson’s correlation co-efficient index using Statistical Package for Social sciences (SPSS) while qualitative data was analyzed using the critical thematic method. The findings revealed that remuneration, staff welfare management and staff development have significance on the commitment of academic staff at Uganda Christian University (Mukono). It was also concluded that managers in institutions should streamline staff development because training and development are some of the human resource practices that affect retention of employees’ commitment in organizations and finally institutions of higher learning should signal commitment of the governing body to promote the welfare of all the employees. The following recommendations were made: managers of higher institutions of learning should adopt better employee remuneration to promote good work attitudes exhibited by content, interest and commitment.en_US
