Role of ICT in management of information in educational institutions: A case study of Kyambogo University
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of ICT in management of information in educational institutions: The case of Kyambogo University. Specifically the study intended to investigate the role of ICT in (i) accessing information in the Library; (ii) keeping, delivery and accessing academic records and (iii) enhancing research and publications, in Kyambogo University. The study was quantitative, in that data were numerically measured and correlation was used to establish the relationship between the two variables that is, ICT and management of information in educational institutions. The study involved 80 lecturers from whom data were collected using a questionnaire. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation method. The findings as per the hypotheses were that there is a significant positive relationship between availability and use of ICT and (i) accessing information in the Library; (ii) keeping, accessing and delivery of academic records and (iii) research and publications. From the findings above, it was concluded that ICT availability and use are fundamental in (i) enabling access to library information; (ii) keeping, accessing and delivery of information; and (iii) research and publications. The University policy makers should ensure that the budgets for the University consider ICT as a priority. In particular they should ensure that staff are availed with computers connected to the internet.
