The study predominantly sought to establish motivation of support staff which continues to be a challenge in sustaining competitive terms of service and raising the morale of staff. The study was done to assess motivation of staff in the context of Herzberg's research findings and their implications on support staff in the halls of residence. The study was conducted by cross-sectional survey from a stratified sample and elicited responses from of 56 respondents selected from the target population using questionnaire as a preferred instrument not only for its sake of convenience and advantages but for its appropriateness in acquiring data. The data was analysed using frequency and percentage distribution and presented in the form of tables, graphs and percentages. The study established that improved salary, continuous training of staff and better working conditions had a positive influence on the level of motivation in the performance of support staff in the halls of residence. The study concludes that management should begin with addressing the issue of improving salary before focusing on other factors to motivate the staff in their current jobs and there are a lot the University stands to gain when the staff are motivated.en_US
