| dc.description | In ‘fruits of success’, the artist looks at the notion of success and how it was understood in the traditional African context. Success in African context was not meant to be for self-gratification or glorification. One’s success was a clan’s success too. One’s success was an entire community’s success. When one succeeded in life and became rich, the community expected him or her to share the success with others. Thus, the African notion of “You are because i am and I am because you are” there was concern for everyone in the community. To emphasize this point, in this work the artist presents two people celebrating their success in an environment full of flowers. These flowers stand for the community. The known and unknown community members. He uses orange a colour of warmth, to represent community energy and red to stand for community brotherhood. His presentation of childlike human forms reminds the viewer about the need for community members to behave like children who out of nowhere love others unconditionally. | en_US |
