Project report on supervision of construction of a medical laboratory and patients’ kitchen at Amudat hospital, Amudat District
Abstract
This report provides an account of my participation in the construction supervision of Construction of a Medical Laboratory at Amudat Hospital. The Contract was awarded to Crane Aluminum Limited at a total contract sum of Uganda Shillings 512,072,400/= (Uganda shillings Five Hundred Twelve million Seventy Two thousand Four Hundred only VAT inclusive). I was appointed as the project supervisor representing Amudat Hospital. The project was awarded in February, 2024 for duration of four (4) months. Supervision was carried out with the project implementation committee of the hospital, the project funders and the district team. This supervision report recapitulates my participation in the project implementation up to completion. The project has realized the practical completion pending a few external cleaning works and commissioning as it undergoes the six-month DLP (defects liability period). The project scope involves construction of a medical Laboratory and a patients’ kitchen. The following key lessons were learnt; effective planning beginning from designs, BOQs, procurement process and work scheduling. In addition to that, maintaining regular communication avoids delays and potentially costly errors and adherence to the contract terms of reference for proper project implementation within the project life cycle. Furthermore, the cross-cutting issues that required emphasis comprised: Physical and psychological OHS for workers, sensitizing workers against HIV/AIDs and other STDs, Environmental Safeguards, compliance with the country’s gender strategy to ensure that the contractor allows for equality at site; availing the site workers with PPEs, security issues at site, Grievances and Redress. Last but not least, the reports gives photos for the works implemented with all the attachments necessary to back up the report
