dc.description.abstractThe study examined the factors that are associated with the persistent increase in teenage pregnancy in Busia District, eastern Uganda. The study examined the role of socio-economic factors, assessed the gaps in the laws, policies and other interventions, and suggested strategies for addressing teenage pregnancy. A cross sectional design, qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis were used. The study found out that the causes of teenage pregnancy included; poverty and parental failure to provide basic needs, outbreak of Covid 19 and peer group influence ,indecent dress code and drunkardness, modern technology, child neglect, cultural norms and practices, parents literacy levels , social events and cultural parties. Laws, policies and other interventions mentioned include defilement, rules against early marriage, penal code act and family planning. Strategies include sensitization, involvement of both cultural and religious leaders, community and girl child empowerment, dual parenting and putting up strict rules. Involvement of both government and other stakeholders was recommended.en_US
