Issue Date: 15-Dec-2008
Abstract: This study was motivated by the high level of poor performance in a cross section of organizations in Uganda. The study set out to establish the relationship between performance management competences, the human resource, employee participation/involvement and perforrnance management and control. A structured questionnaire was employed to collect data. Questionnaires were administered to 50 public and private organizations. Respondents from these organizations comprised of top and middle management level employees. Results obtained from the statistical analysis of the data using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) show that Perforrnance Management Competences, Employee Competency, and Participation/Involvement strongly, significantly and positively correlate with Performance Management and Control. These findings demonstrate that organizations that maximize on identification and deployment of critical performance management competences, appropriate human resource orientation and participation/involvement of all relevant stakeholders will realize positive improvements in performance management and control thereby leading to increased productivity.
