Abstract: The purpose of this study was to obtain anthropometric data and their derivatives in order to set reference values in Makerere University undergraduate students. A total of 170 students participated in the study. Their heights and weights were measured and their ages recorded. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated as BMI = weight (kg height-1m2). Reference ranges were set using mean+2SD. The resulting data were classified into underweight, ideal weight, overweight and obese using international reference. The height range was 140-185 cm and reference range was 153 to 181 cm. The weight ranged from 41.0 to 91.0 kg and reference range was 45.6 - 82.3 kg. The BMI ranged from 16.9 to 32.0 kg m-2 and the reference range was 18.1-28.78 kg m-2. Based on international standards, 72.9% of the participants had BMI in the normal and healthy range of 19.0 - 25.0 kg m-2 as 11.8% were underweight, while 10.0% were overweight and 3.5% were obese. The age ranged from 20 to 26 years. This study provides population based reference values of BMI in Makerere University undergraduate students.
