An information system for car park management
Abstract
The housing market with provision of garages, employer free parking as a pre-tax fringe benefit and absence of a reliable mass public transport system, have resulted into an explosion in the number of single occupant cars in the city. The parking industry must constantly introduce new innovations to match the ever increasing numbers of single occupant cars. The increasing number of cars constrain the paper based clearing system of cars at entry/exit points of parking sites. In this study, the development of a management information system to help alleviate the problems of management is described. The system aims at creating car account, computing parking charges at per minute rate and automate report making. Tools used in the design and implementation of the system were DFD, ERD, MySQL, ODBC and Java programming language. The results of validation of the implemented system using test data are described.
